Frame

2023-2024, Frame 01, Performance Art, AUArts Main Mall, Calgary.
05/2024, Frame 02, Performance Art, Peace Bridge, Calgary.
07/2024, Frame 03, Performance Art, The New Gallery, Calgary.

In the Frame series, I performed at three symbolic locations, each representing invisible societal, cultural, or personal constraints. Through these two-hour performances, I used my body to explore how these frames impact me and my struggle to break free from them.

At the AUArts main mall, wearing white and wrapping myself in red yarn, I transitioned from private to public, reflecting on the shift from being ignored to being highlighted as a woman. This raised questions about frames in buildings, nature, and gender.

At Peace Bridge, I wrapped myself and nearby trees in yarn, exploring the human privilege of framing and oppressing nature. Blindfolded, I felt deeply connected to nature, realizing the frame’s internal origin.

At The New Gallery, I performed with Natalie Gerber, intertwining yarn to explore relationships, dependence, and power dynamics. Each performance revealed that frames are both external constructs and internal struggles, inviting audiences to reflect on true freedom within constraints.
